"A story is told as much by silence as by speech."
Susan Griffin
 - I think that this quote means that you can tell a story of something by the way it looks. For example, there is a man. He has white hair, has glasses, and is wearing a suit. By first glance I would guess that this man is older and has poor eye sight. With the suit I would guess he is use to wearing them and was maybe a lawyer as a previous career. If you look closer you can see a ring on his left ring finger, he is possibly married. This means that silence though is not spoken as a description, you can still always find a description in just looking.

"A voice is a human gift; it should be cherished and used, to utter fully human speech as possible. Powerlessness and silence go together."
Margaret Atwood
-I think that this means that someone's voice is their power. With a voice you have the power to speak up for what you believe in. Words are powerful and so is the emotions that you can put into those words. Silence is the same as being powerlessness. You can't share your emotions through words. You can't speak up and say what you need to. This quote also means that you should cherish your voice and protect it. But as well as you should always use it to speak up for those whose who may not have a voice to speak up with.
