        I think that this quote means that you can tell a story of something by the way it looks. For example, on the picture to the left you see two tree trunks. Even though trees don't talk, the trees can tell you how old they are. 
    With each year in a trees life that passes, a new ring is formed on the trunk. So by counting up all the rings on a tree's trunk, you know exactly how old it is. 
    Susan Griffin has witten a lot of books and pieces of writing in her time. She describes her work as "drawing connections between the destruction of nature, the diminishment of women and racism, and tracing the causes of war to denial in both private and public life." She defends the environment. This ties into my theme because the environment doesn't have a voice to speak out to defend itself with. The environment tells you a story in its own way. Just like trees do..........
